Chlorophyll, the green matter of plants, is abundant in nature. Through a process called photosynthesis, chlorophyll uses energy from the sun to perform various metabolic functions. When humans and animals eat chlorophyll from plants, they also benefit from the energy of the sun. In addition, scientists have discovered that chlorophyll, from a molecular point of view, is very similar to the red pigment of the red blood cell of humans. The main difference is that the human red pigment has a central iron atom, while the green plant pigment (chlorophyll) has a central magnesium atom.
